Albert T. Henry, formerly of Aaronsburg, passed from this life on September 15, 2016 at his residence at Valley View Haven in Belleville. He was 98.  Born August 3, 1918 in York, Albert was the son of the late Albert J and Ida Trimmer Henry of York.  He was a 1935 graduate of West York High School where he was awarded a scholarship to Elizabethtown College in Lancaster.  After attending two years, he transferred to Penn State University where he earned a B.S Degree in Electrical Engineering.  Upon graduation Albert was employed by the Bell Telephone Company in Harrisburg.  On March 16, 1940 Albert married Ann Ross.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Albert entered the military in April of 1942 as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy.  He was assigned to the RADAR program where he received three months of training at Bowdoin College in New Brunswick, MA, three months at MIT in Boston and a final three months at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey.  He was then sent to Pearl Harbor where he was assigned to the cruiser USS Cleveland in the South Pacific.  Along with three other ships of her class they were to prohibit Japan from reinforcing their troops in Guadalcanal, then assisted in landing US forces onto various islands northward to Japan.  Albert earned four ribbons and seven battle stars.

At the end of WWII, Albert was placed on inactive reserve status.  Five years later in July of 1952 he was recalled to active duty during the Korean War.  He was promoted to the rank of Lt. Commander and assigned to the Research and Development Section of the Bureau of Ordinance in Washington D.C.  Two years later he was discharged from active duty.  He resigned his commission and returned to work for the Bell Telephone Company where he engineered the state wide mobile radio system for the Pennsylvania State Police.  He retired from Bell Telephone in 1978 with 38 years of service. 

Ann passed away in 2001 and Albert then married Esther Martin in 2004.  She passed away in 2011.  Albert is survived by one son Harry R. Henry and one daughter, Rose McGeehen, both of Huntingdon.  Also surviving is one grandson Kenneth, two granddaughters, Deborah and Kristin and two great grandchildren; Christian and Alexandra.  In addition to both his wives, Albert was preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia; one brother, Harry and one sister, Carolyn. 

Albert was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Aaronsburg and later attended the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Rebersburg.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid Penn State football fan.  He spent thirteen years in the Boy Scout program, was a member of the Millheim Lions Club, American Legion Keystone Post #444, the Centre County Historical Society and the Centre County Genealogical Society. 

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, September 20th from 1-2 pm at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Rebersburg followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm.  Albert will be laid to rest in the Evangelical Cemetery in Rebersburg.  Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Keystone Post #444 of Millheim.
