Betty M. Mensch, 90, formerly of Millheim, passed away Monday, May 15th at Wynwood House in Centre Hall. Born October 27, 1926 in Woodward, Betty was a daughter of the late Homer “Shum” and Mary (Gisewhite) Bowersox. She was a graduate of East Penns Valley High School. On December 21, 1949, Betty married Frederick C. Mensch who preceded her in death on October 6, 2016.
Betty was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Spring Mills. She worked alongside Fred on the family farm and was later employed as a resident care attendant at the former University Park Nursing Home in State College and also the former Laurelton State Hospital in Laurelton. After her retirement she volunteered at Centre Crest and Salem Hill Haven.
Betty is survived by one brother M. “Windy” Bowersox of Pleasant Gap and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Nevin Bowersox and one sister, Tillie Orndorf.
In accordance with Betty’s wishes, there is no public viewing. A public graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Millheim on Saturday, May 20th at 2:00 pm with Pastor Dawn Marie Meier officiating.
