Carl Daniel Smith

Carl Daniel Smith, of Centre Hall, passed away on Dec 19, 2017 at the age of 89.  He was born January 29, 1928 to the late Charles Blair Smith and Bertha Rosella Brown Smith in Centre Hall.  Carl graduated from Centre Hall Potter Township High School in 1946.  He served his country in the Army’s 404th Antiaircraft Artillery Battery at Fort Knox, KY, and as an antiaircraft artillery crewman in the 26th Battalion, 24th Division in South Korea.  On Aug 24, 1954, he married Doris Mae Zerby who survives.  

Farming was Carl’s passion. Together, he and Doris operated a 5 generation family dairy farm in Centre Hall.  He was a member of the St. John’s Union Church in Farmer’s Mills.  Besides his wife, he is survived by sons Robert (Suzanne Hall) Smith of Yorktown, VA and Thomas (Julie Shaffer) Smith of Centre Hall; grandchildren Aaron (Kalena Hale) Smith, Lucy (Adam) Pisoni, James Smith, Jenny (Ben) Rupert, and Nick Smith, and great-grandchildren Lillyanna and Cael Smith.  In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, Charles Dean and Donald Eugene Smith, and one sister, Laura Miriam Smith Berich.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 27th from 10-11:30am at St. John’s Union Church in Farmers Mills, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 am with Pastor Brandon Cian officiating.  Contributions in memory of Carl may be given to the American Cancer Society or to St John’s Union Church c/o Jean Vonada, 134 Ridge Ave, Centre Hall, PA 16828.  Carl will be laid to rest in the Lutheran and Reformed in Centre Hall.
