Carolyn Ann (McClure) Bower, 95, of Aaronsburg died peacefully in her home on February 28, 2015. Born April 27, 1919 in Renovo, PA, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Carrie (Miller) McClure. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Alden M. Bower, one sister, Sara Jacobs, and two brothers, Lawrence and Herman McClure.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Jane McMonigal (Melvin) of Port Matilda, PA and son, Douglas Bower, of Aaronsburg. Also surviving are her two grandchildren Michael McMonigal (Lori) of Reedsville, PA and Melanie Stimer (Travis) of Port Matilda. Carolyn also had four great grandchildren who she adored and who kept her smiling; Madison, Ethan, Wyatt, and Daniel. She also had many loving nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was a 1938 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She was a homemaker who enjoyed celebrating her life with her family. In the past, she bowled weekly with her “April Fools” team. Her most recent activities were playing Rummy with her caregivers, word search puzzles, reading Dear Abby and the comics.

Mrs. Bower was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church. At church, she participated in the church choir and hand bell choir. She was awarded a 50-year pin for her service as a member of The Eastern Star. She was also a member of East Penns Valley Women’s Club.

Visitation for Carolyn will be held at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim, PA on Wednesday, March 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The Order of the Eastern Star Centre Chapter 207 will conduct a memorial service in honor of Mrs. Bower at 8:00 PM. An additional visitation will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Millheim on Thursday, March 5th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM followed by the funeral service with Pastor Julia Sprenkle officiating. Carolyn will be laid to rest in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Aaronsburg. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
