Carrie E. Neese, 93, of Spring Mills, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Salem Hill Haven. Born in Spring Mills on February 22, 1921, Carrie was a daughter of the late Ira and Myrtle (McClellan) Lingle. Carrie married Henry F. “Hen” Neese who preceded her in death on February 15, 1986.
Carrie is survived by three daughters, Mildred Styers Rowles Noll of Spring Mills, Margaret Royer of Rebersburg and Helen Sweeley (Dave) of Spring Mills; three sons, William “Bill” Neese, Samuel “George” Neese (Betty) and David E. Neese (Audrey) all of Spring Mills; 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Carrie was preceded in death by one daughter, Katheryn Peese; one daughter in law, Evelyn Neese and three sons in law, Charles Rowles, John Noll and Warren Royer.
Carrie was a member of Salem United Church of Christ where she served on the Consistory from 1988-2005 and she is now an Elder Emeritus. Earlier in her life when able, Carrie was also a very active member of the Gregg Township Ladies Auxilliary. In her spare time she enjoyed word search and jigsaw puzzles, rug hooking, watching daytime soap operas and flower gardening. Her favorites were daffodils which she called “Easter lilies”. At one time, she also sewed all her own dresses and aprons. She loved to bake, her favorites being mincemeat and pumpkin pie and shoefly cake.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Salem Hill Haven where Carrie received wonderful, loving care from 2009 till her passing.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home on Monday, January 12 from 6-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 13 at the funeral home at 11:00 am with Pastor Dawn Marie Meier officiating. Carrie will be laid to rest in Heckman Cemetery in Spring Mills. Contributions in her memory may be given to Salem U.C.C.
