Richard Confer Obituary

Richard W. Confer, 86, of Aaronsburg, passed from this life on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.  Born January 8, 1932 in Centre Hall, Richard was a son of the late William and Grace “McClenahan” Confer.  On April 21, 1961, Richard married the love of his life, Frances G. Guisewhite, who survives at their home.

Richard proudly served his country as a SGT in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he earned the Presidential Unit Citation, the Korean Medal w/Bronze Service Star and the Combat Infantryman Badge.  Upon his return home, Richard was employed as an electrician at Hanover Foods in Centre Hall, retiring with 36 years of service and he also owned his own business, Confer Electric.  He was a member of the American Legion Keystone Post #444 in Millheim, the Millheim Fire Company, and the Nittany Antique Machinery Association.  He was an avid collector of International Harvester/Farmall tractors.  He loved attending the tractor pulls and watching his grandson’s pull.  He also enjoyed butchering, having his own meat shop at his home, where he shared his knowledge of the butchering trade with his grandsons and great grandsons.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by two daughters, Mary Kerstetter (Cloyd) of Aaronsburg and Janie Irvin of Bellefonte; one son in law, Rodney J. Wolfe of Spring Mills and three sisters, Marty Lightner of Bellefonte, Linda Neil of Lamar and Shirley Krout of Baltimore, MD.  Also surviving are grandchildren, Kevin Kerstetter (Claudia), Brian Kerstetter (Amy), Richard M. Wolfe (Heather), Rodney C. Wolfe (Nicole), Kelly Jo Rhoades (Richard), Donald J. Irvin, Jr. (Val) and Stephanie Rossman (John), along with twelve great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.  Richard was preceded in death by one daughter, Christy A.
