Thelma Y. Leedy, 77, of Aaronsburg, passed from this life on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born June 3, 1939 in Mingoville, Thelma was a daughter of the late John W. and Mary E. “Dobson” Starr. On June 9, 1956, Thelma married the love of her life, Ronald E. “Bill” Leedy who survives at their home.
Thelma was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed crocheting, drawing and bowling in her younger years. She was also an animal lover and her favorites were cocker spaniels and pugs. However, what Thelma was best known for was her avid gardening skills. She had her own greenhouse and at one time had a collection of about 800 plants, 100 of which are orchids alone. Bill would build the shelves and she would fill them with exotic plants, many that were rare to this area.
In addition to her husband, Thelma is survived by one daughter, Debora Leedy-Burns (Tom Warner) of Spring Mills; one son, Rodney J. Leedy also of Spring Mills and three grandchildren, Jamie A. Burns (Nicole), Melissa J. Coleman and Samantha J. Leedy. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Taysha, Dustin, Abby, Karri and Dakota, along with two brothers, Dennis Starr (Bonnie), Philip Starr (Diane) and one sister, Donna Franklin. Thelma was preceded in death by two sisters Frances Hosterman and infant Sharon Starr.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 18th from 10-11 am at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim, followed by the funeral at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris Lutz officiating. Thelma will be laid to rest in the Woodward Cemetery.
