V. Paul “Biff” Steiger, 84, formerly of Upper George’s Valley Rd., Spring Mills, entered into rest at 12:25 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Centre Crest, Bellefonte.

He was born April 29, 1931, in Spring Mills, a son of the late Randall and Mary (Gobble) Steiger.  On December 21, 1952, he married the former Dorothy I. Mann, who preceded him in death.

Paul was a 1950 graduate of Gregg Township Vocational School, Spring Mills.  

He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as Aerial Camera Reconnaissance from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955.  During this time Paul served 18 months in Germany, and then remained in the Air Force National Guard in Birmingham, Alabama, for many years after returning from Germany.

Paul was an active member of the Sprucetown United Methodist Church.

He was employed at the Hanover Cannery, during high school, and by the Penn State food service, prior to enlisting in the Air Force, 

Paul worked at Brown Engineering, Birmingham, as a camera Technician, and attended night classes at the University of Alabama, in Birmingham, studying dentistry.

In 1962, he moved to Huntsville, Alabama, to work on the Red Stone Arsenal, as a camera technician, where he had the opportunity to work with Werner VonBraun, a German scientist.

Paul attended night college classes in Huntsville, studying Elementary Education.  Later, he taught school in the Alabama state school system, from where he retired in 1997.

He moved back to Pennsylvania in 1998.

Paul was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Clock Guild, Centre Hall Grange, and Alabama Teachers Association. 

He enjoyed airplanes, collecting guns, photography, collecting coins, antique clocks, woodworking, and going out to eat at restaurants with his wife.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Randall “Randy” T. and Patience Steiger of Cheyenne, Wyoming; 3 brothers and two sisters-in-law, Leon and Kathleen Steiger of Madisonburg, J. Duane Steiger of Spring Mills, and Robert and Helen Steiger of Spring Mills; one sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Martin Rishel of Belleville; two grandchildren, Randall T. Steiger, II, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Jared P. and his wife Stephanie Steiger of Denver, Colorado; and two great granddaughters, Karissa and Violet Steiger.

He was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Patricia Steiger.

Family and friends are welcome from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the Sprucetown United Methodist Church, where the funeral will be conducted at 2, with Rev. Jeffrey Mugridge, officiating.

Burial will be in the Sprucetown Church Cemetery, with military honors by the Millheim American Legion, Post 444.
