Dennis L. Harter

Dennis L. Harter, of Smullton, passed from this life on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.  He was 68.  Born October 18, 1949 in Bellefonte, Dennis was a son of the late Gilbert L. and Mildred L. “Confer” Harter.  He was a 1967 graduate of the Penns Valley Area High School.  Dennis was employed in Media Technology Repair at Penn State University, retiring with 36 years of service.

Dennis is survived by his beloved companion of 30 years, Carol.  A dearly beloved father to one son, Douglas L. Harter and daughter in law, Teresa, of Bellefonte; and one daughter, Laurie A. Balsley and son in law, Christopher, of Sterling, VA; five grandchildren, Joshua Gentzel (Moira), Allison Saal (Ryan), Logan Harter and Aidan and Mackenzie Balsley.  Also surviving is one niece, Carri Roan; two nephews, Matthew and Tyler Roan; and two great nieces, Danielle Berenbrok and Julie Shay-Rodriguez.  In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother Leo E. Harter, sister in law, Margaret Harter, and one niece, Shirley Shay.

Dennis served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, collecting and he loved Bluegrass Music.  He looked forward to the Grange Fair every year.  Dennis enjoyed life and being with his family. He will be greatly missed.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, February 17th from 10:00-11:00 am at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim.  The memorial service will follow at 11am with Pastor Mike Covalt officiating.  Dennis will be laid to rest in the Lutheran & Reformed Cemetery in Rebersburg.  Contributions in memory of Dennis may be given to Penns Valley EMS, PO Box 650, Millheim, Pa 16854.
