Lulu Shawver Obituary

Lulu Shawver went home to be with her Lord early Tuesday morning, March 27th, fittingly as we celebrate the Easter season, after living a life that embodied the very meaning of giving of oneself and loving one another.

She lived a simple life, a devoted farmer’s wife of 67 years, mother to eight children, and matriarch of 100, and was never wealthy by earthly standards.  Yet, given the chance, she would gladly share the cookies from her pantry, popsicles from her freezer, and the food off her own plate to any who were hungry.  Her joy came not from receiving but from giving, however great or meager her possessions, with her spirit fulfilled each time she met the frequent request of “Gram, do you have anything to eat?” to the scores of kids, family or visitor, constantly around on the family farm.  If you visited her often enough you would learn not to decline her relentless offers, but to accept her sharing of what she had.  Even had she heaps of money she would have lived the same humble life, savoring not what the world could offer but living fulfilled in what she could offer instead.

To have known Lulu is to know what it means to sincerely love.  Above all else, she will be remembered for giving that ultimate gift…unquestioning, unwavering love.  For years she provided care and comfort around the clock as her lifelong husband Cloyd gradually lost his fight with cancer.  The love that she gave him exemplifies what love is meant to be.   Years later when reminiscing about their lives together her face would clearly show that part of her had also died as well when her husband passed away.  To know love and commitment that deep, that true is something we all should aspire for, both to give and to receive.  Lulu provided that example for all of us and it will be through our own lives that her love and memory will live on.

Above all else, Lulu loved God and lived a life pleasing to him.  Her faith and devotion formed the very foundation of her being.  Those left behind mourning our loss can find comfort in knowing that she is at peace in heaven, reunited with Pap, together dancing the Shawver dance before Jesus.

Lulu was preceded in death by her husband Cloyd and two grandsons, Trevor Fetteroff and Lucas Shawver, her parents Harry Powers and Hildagard Hawn Powers, and five sisters and one brother, Alberta Smith (Jerry), Marcella Bowersox (Bill), Audrey Hackenberg (Rich), Hilda Liddick (Howard), Betty Shawver (David), and Ralph Powers (Shirley).

Lulu is survived by eight children, Hilda Haubrick, Cloyd Jr (Margaret), James E. (Marlene), Vivian “Biff ‘’ (Marty Myers), Leroy (Judy), Samuel, and Mary (Jay Creeger), 27 grandchildren (17 spouses), 60 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren.  This year she will miss the birth of one additional great grandchild and one great great grandchild.
