Phyllis M. (Styers) Young

Phyllis M. Young, of Spring Mills, formerly of Madisonburg, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 24th at Mount Nittany Medical Center.  She was 79.  Born in Bellefonte on September 30, 1938, Phyllis was a daughter of the late Ernest E. and Jesse “Gilmore” Styers.  On May 3, 1955 she married Franklin J. Young who preceded her in death on June 1, 2009.

Phyllis was employed at Gettig Pharmaceuticals in Spring Mills, retiring with 27 years of service.  She was a member of the Penns Valley God’s Missionary Church.  Phyllis enjoyed knitting and crocheting and she also had an extensive teddy bear collection.

Phyllis is survived by one daughter, Donna M. Miller of Rebersburg, two sons; Douglas E. Young of Spring Mills and Keith F. Young of Omaha, NE, and four grandchildren, Bradly Miller (Jessica), Eric Miller (Kelly) and Brandon and Kammy Young.  Also surviving are six great grandchildren, Owen, Colby, Madelyn, Haley, Alyza and Jase Franklin Miller, along with siblings, Robert Styers, Betty Zerby and Ruth Weaver.  In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by one son in law, Richard Miller and siblings Walter Styers, Kenneth “Shorty”, Styers, Ray Styers and Dollie Hosterman. 

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Penns Valley God’s Missionary Church with Pastor Andy Cooley officiating.  Phyllis will be laid to rest in the UCC & Lutheran Cemetery in Madisonburg.  Contributions in memory of Phyllis may be given to Penns Valley God’s Missionary Church, 109 Evergreen Lane, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
