Janet L. Devinney, of Spring Mills, passed from this life on Sunday, May 27th at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. She was 84. Born June 27, 1933 in Pine Grove Mills, Janet was a daughter of the late James E. and Nadine (Britamarte Fortney) Wasson. On July 25, 1951 she married John C. Devinney who preceded her in death on July 18, 2016.
Janet worked alongside John on the family farm in Gregg Township for many years. She was well known among the ladies in the community for selling Avon. After retiring, Janet and John enjoyed camping, RV traveling and playing cards. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Spring Mills where she was involved in the ladies Bible Study group. Janet was also a member of the Good Sam RV club and the Nittany Antique Machinery Association. Janet especially enjoyed getting the whole family together for the holidays.
Janet is survived by 6 daughters, Joan Helmrich (Robert) of South Williamsport, Janice Wert (John) of Spring Mills, June Irwin (Tom) of Centre Hall, Jill Leitch (Ed) of Spring Mills, Jackie Decker (Randy) of Spring Mills, and Julie Leitch (Chris) of Centre Hall; 1 son, John Devinney (Diann) of Centre Hall; 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings, Paul Wasson of Madisonburg and Phyllis Evey of Sterling Heights, MI. In addition to her husband, Janet was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane M. Stover Ricker, and 2 sisters, Nadine Ross, and Joyce McCool, and 2 brothers, Richard and Ivan Wasson.
In accordance with family wishes, Janet will be laid to rest in Salem U.C.C cemetery during a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Neff Funeral Home, Po Box 437, Millheim, PA 16854.
