M. Arlene Stover, of Spring Mills, passed from this life on July 31, 2018 at Salem Hill Haven. She was 85. Born July 6, 1933 in Spring Mills, Arlene was a daughter of the late Joseph and Stella “Thompson” Swabb. On January 13, 1951, at the family farm, Arlene married Donald E. “Shorty” Stover, who preceded her in death in May of 1999.
Arlene helped her husband on the family farm and retired as a clerk from the Spring Mills Post Office. She was a member of the St. John’s UCC church in Farmers Mills where she served as organist for many years and was a member of the choir. Arlene taught piano lessons and played for over 70 weddings, along with many funerals in the Penns Valley Area. She enjoyed bowling and was a former member of the East Penns Valley Women’s Club. She also volunteered for the Red Cross.
Surviving is one daughter, Nancy R. Mason (Chuck) of Spring Mills; four sons, Jerry G. Stover (JoEllen) of Cape Coral, FL, Daniel L. Stover (Donna) of Spring Mills, D. Edward Stover (Linda) of Spring Mills and Mitchell J. Stover (Linda) of Aaronsburg; seven grandchildren, Shelby Knipe (Derek), Ryan Mason (Stephanie), Lance Stover (Christine), Danielle Racioppi (AJ), and Vincent, Jeremy and Josh Stover. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren, Addison, Adam, Asher, Lily, Lincoln, Anthony, Cali and Zyan. Arlene was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Swabb and one grandson, Dustin Stover.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 4th from 12-1:30 pm at St. John’s Union Church in Farmers Mills, followed by the funeral at 1:30. Arlene will be laid to rest in Centre County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. John’s Union Church, c/o Jean Vonada, 134 Ridge Ave, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
