Melvin E. Tice, of Spring Mills, passed away on November 17, 2019 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. He was 78. Born July 20, 1941 in Unionville, Melvin was a son of the late William F. and Emily “Hall” Tice. On August 16, 1959 he married Miriam K. Rider who survives at their home.
Melvin was employed as a welder at Garbrick Amusements and the former Martin Marietta stone quarry in Pleasant Gap. He was also a truck driver at the quarry in Oak Hall. Melvin was an avid fisherman, often traveling long distances to do so. He and his wife enjoyed traveling when able. Melvin also enjoyed hunting. His most favorite activity to indulge in though, was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Melvin is survived by two daughters, Kathy L. Tice Slyder of Williamsburg and Lori A. Tice Shughart (Nevin) of Dillsburg; one son, Donald E. Tice, Sr. (Hulda) of Spring Mills; two brothers, Russell Tice and Nelson Tice; three sisters, Rebecca Musser, Viola Webner and Faye Biggens; three grandchildren, Donald E. Tice, Jr., Christal D. Tice Simons and Matthew S. Shughart. Also surviving are five great grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by four daughters, Betty Ann Tice, Nancy Jane Tice, Debra Kay Tice and Wanda Marie Tice; six brothers, Merrill, John, Foster, Stewart, Bruce and Harold Tice; three sisters, Helen Kitner, Verna Peese, and Lois Herstetter, and one son in law, Ralph Slyder.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 6-8 pm at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim, followed by the funeral service at 8 pm with Pastor Kenneth Codner officiating. Melvin will be laid to rest in the Sprucetown Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Melvin’s memory may be given to the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home, PO Box 437, Millheim, PA 16854.
