Mildred I. “Doll” Hosterman of Aaronsburg, passed quietly away on Saturday, March 11th at her home. She was 89. Born April 14, 1927 in Millheim, Doll was a daughter of the late Ernest and Jesse (Gilmore) Styers. Doll married Virgil W. Hosterman in August of 1945. Virgil preceded her in death on February 9, 2017.
At the tender age of 9, Doll rode the Titan bus to and from Axemann where she would then walk a mile to her job as a housekeeper. After her marriage, Doll and Virgil worked side by side on the family farm to provide a living for their small family. Doll earned her nickname because of the doll collection that she amassed over the years. She owned about 1,200. Doll will be missed by her family.
Doll is survived by one son, Glenn E. Hosterman (Mary) of Aaronsburg; one grandson, Bret W. Hosterman (Christa) of State College and one great grandson, Gavin Hosterman, also of State College. Also surviving are three sisters, Ruth Weaver, Phyllis Young and Betty Zerby and one brother, Robert U. Styers, Sr. In addition to her husband, Mildred was preceded in death by three brothers, H. Ray Styers, Walter Styers and Kenneth E. “Shorty” Styers.
In accordance with Mildred’s wishes, there are no public services.
