Andrew Peffer Obituary

Surrounded by his loving family, Andrew Joseph Peffer, of Aaronsburg, passed away December 7, 2020 at his home after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.  Born December 17, 1977 in Kittanning, Andrew was a son of Don A. and Janice S. “Ferkan” Peffer of Punxsutawney.

Andrew was a 1996 graduate of Punxsutawney High School where he was the salutatorian of his class.  Upon graduation from high school, Andrew attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors in Science Degree.  While at college he was a Provost Scholar and a member of the Kappa Delta Pi fraternity.

Andrew began his teaching degree in the Punxsutawney School District as a substitute teacher.  He then moved to Centre County where he was employed as the 9th grade Earth and Space Science Teacher at the Penns Valley Area High School with 15 years of service.  There he made many new friends and was loved and respected as a role model, a caring teacher and, most of all, a friend by his students.  He wasn’t just a teacher, he truly loved and cared about his students.  Andrew will be truly missed.  In his spare time, Andrew loved flower gardening, collecting antiques, traveling and working on his home.  He had attended the Tri County Church in Dubois.

In addition to his parents, Andrew is survived by his longtime companion, Wes Harbaugh of Aaronsburg; one sister, Shelley Rowan of Punxsutawney; one brother, Gregory Peffer of Strattonville; one brother in law, Brian Rowan; two nephews, Garrett and Brice Rowan and one niece, McKenzie Peffer.  Also surviving is his paternal grandmother, Anna Mae Peffer of Punxsutawney.  Andrew was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Andrew and Maxine Ferkan of Dayton and his paternal grandfather, Albert Peffer of Punxsutawney.

A local visitation for family and friends will be held at the Penns Valley High School Auditorium on Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 4-8 pm.  A second visitation will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Tri County Church (Dubois Hill) in Dubois.  The funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris Trethewey officiating.  There will be a one hour visitation preceding the funeral service.  Andrew will be laid to rest in the Concord Cemetery in Dayton.  Contributions in his memory may be given to UPMC Hospice/Williamsport, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Ste 4, Williamsport, PA 17701 or to the Lance and Ellen Shaner Cancer Pavilion, 1800 E Park Ave., State College, PA 16803.
