Arthur Gill Obituary

Arthur P. Gill, of York, formerly of Woodward, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York.  He was 93.  Born November 21, 1927 in Woodward.  Arthur was a son of the late Arthur and Anna Mary “Crater” Gill.  Arthur retired from Consolidated Freight at York as a Dockworker with 30 + years of service.

Arthur served his country in the U. S. Army.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years.  Most recently Arthur enjoyed going to the casino mostly to interact with people.  He loved talking and visiting and handing out candy.  Thus he became known as “The Candy Man”.

Arthur was one of eight siblings and is survived by one sister, Betty Watson of York; nephew Archie Watson, Jr and his wife Anita, his primary caregivers for the last few years, also of York.  Also surviving are several other nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, Paul and William Gill and three sisters, Minnie Pressler, Pearl Hafer and Ruth Leslie.

Arthur will be laid to rest in Woodward Cemetery.  A private graveside service will be held at a later date.  Contributions in his memory may be given to the charity of donor’s choice.
