Betty Ruth Stover, formerly of Coburn, passed from this life on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Wynwood at Salem Hill Haven in Spring Mills. She was 90. Born December 13, 1930 in Spring Mills, Betty was a daughter of the late Clarence C. and Ida M. “Keller” Smith. She was a graduate of the former Gregg Township Vocational School. On September 7, 1949 in Aaronsburg, Betty married Dean Alfred Stover who preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 2009.
Betty was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ where she was active in Family Fellowship. She was also a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, the Good Sam Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Nittany Antique Machinery Association. She enjoyed camping, playing cards and attending Grange Fair. She assisted Dean on the family farm and enjoyed baking, cooking and taking care of her husband, children, grandchildren, and all the great and great-great grandchildren. They were the joy of her life. She will be missed by all.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Peggy Swartz (Steve) and Cynthia Ross (Bob); three sons, Joseph Stover (Lucinda), Jeffrey Stover (Debra) and Jesse Stover; four siblings, Lois Royer (Ken), Shirley Chamberlin (John), Janet Schaeffer and Andrew Smith (Rose); fifteen grandchildren, Jason (Carrie), Erin (Greg), Janette (Rob), Melissa, Brian (Jackie), Michele (Terry), Travis (Nicole), Diah (James), Tyler (Nichole), Natasha, Vanessa (True), Heather, Adam, Tamara and Joshua. Also surviving are twenty three great grandchildren, Christina, Kirk, Brianna, Jessica, Emily, Jordin, Ty, Curtis, Wyatt, Lane, Haylee, Kayla, Keyton, Kaden, Clayton, Raynee, Daisy, Ruthy, Piper, Chase, Brantley, Chloe and Xander and nine great great grandchildren, Nolen, Aliza, Morgan, Andrea, Colten, Jackson, Paxton, Paisley and Fallon. In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by a son, Jamie Stover, a brother, Ardell Smith, a son in law, Richard Ross and brother in law, Ron Schaeffer.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Salem United Church of Christ on Route 45, Spring Mills, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 pm with Pastor Teresa Hockenberry officiating. Betty will be laid to rest in the Salem UCC Cemetery.
