Catharine "Katie" Shirk, formerly of Centre Hall, departed this life on October 16, 2022, in Baton Rouge, LA. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and cousin; she will be very much missed.
Born January 22, 1938, Catharine was the daughter of the late Herschel Shirk and Eleanor (St. Clair) Weber. Katie's father passed away when she was a baby. When her mother married Charles Weber, he raised Katie as his daughter.
Katie graduated from the former Potter Township High School in Centre Hall. She then attended Penn State University, majoring in Physical Education. While in college, Katie worked at the Corner Room as a waitress, a job she was proud of having.
Katie enjoyed reading her Bible, working word search puzzles, crocheting, and eating at Piccadilly. Even though she moved south in the 90s, Katie always supported Penn State, even wearing blue and white while feeding the ducks at the LSU lakes. Her family will remember her for the incredible strength, unconditional love, and witty humor she showed throughout her entire life.
Katie is survived by a niece, Linda Davis of Prairieville, LA; a nephew James Davis of Mechanicsburg; and a great-niece Kelly Davis. Also surviving are three great-great nieces and one great-great nephew.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Davis; and brother-in-law, Thomas Davis, both of McNeil, Mississippi. Katie's grandparents were Carrie (Mayes) and Clarence St. Clair of Bellefonte.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, from 10 til 11 am at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Theresa Heiser officiating. Katie will be laid to rest in the Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery in Rebersburg.
