Dixie L. “Copenhaver” Ort, formerly of Aaronsburg, passed away September 26, 2023, at Wynhouse House at Salem Hill. She was 87. Born January 15, 1936, in Spring Bank, Miles Township, Dixie was a daughter of the late Merrill T. and Goldie M “Shultz” Copenhaver. She graduated from the former East Penns Valley High School in 1953. Dixie married Charles H. Ort who preceded her in death on September 21, 2000.
Dixie was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Aaronsburg. She served on the Consistory for many years and sang in the choir. She was employed at Cerro Metals Products from 1954-1996 when she retired. Dixie was employed as a part time caregiver at the former Salem Hill Haven with thirteen years of service. Dixie loved being outdoors taking care of her lawn and working in her flower beds. She also loved animals and enjoyed baking goodies to share.
Dixie is survived by four sisters, Patsy Vonada of Aaronsburg, Judy Bailey of Zion, and Linda Long and Glenda Copenhaver, both of Aaronsburg: one brother, Ronald Copenhaver of Bloomsburg and two stepsons, Charles Ort of Mingoville and Robert Ort of Fountain Inn, SC. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, great grandson, great granddaughters, and great nieces and great nephews.
Family and friends will be received at St. Peter’s UCC in Aaronsburg from 10:00 – 11:00 am October 4, 2023. The Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Teresa Hockenberry officiating. Dixie will be laid to rest in the Evangelical and Reformed Cemetery in Aaronsburg.
