Edward Kerstetter Obituary

Edward W. “Newt” Kerstetter, of Millheim, passed into the arms of his Savior on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.  He was 65.  Born July 12, 1956 in Bellefonte, Ed was a son of the late Leonard F. and Verna M.  “Sproul” Kerstetter.  He was a 1974 graduate of Penns Valley High School.  On November 12, 2005 Ed married the love of his life, Barbara J. Houser who survives. 

Ed began his employment with his brother Cloyd in the construction business.  Later he worked as a sales clerk at Longs Auto Parts in Millheim.  He was a member of the St. Peters United Church of Christ in Aaronsburg, the Aaronsburg Civic Club and the Black Panther Campground.  He also served as secretary of the Aaronsburg Joint Cemetery Association.  Ed enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, fishing and woodworking.  He and Barb especially enjoyed camping.  Ed also kept busy with community activities like helping with Donut Day at St. Peters, making pot pie for Dutch Fall Festival and participating in the Millheim Live Nativity.

In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by two sisters, Mary Hettinger (Randall) of Rebersburg and Marlene Gotshall (Larry) of Mifflinburg, and two brothers, William T. “Dave” Kerstetter (Patsy) and Kenneth A. Kerstetter (Karen) both of Mifflinburg.  Also surviving is a sister in law, Mary Kerstetter.  Ed was preceded in death by seven siblings, Cloyd, Jimmy, Thomas, Robert “Red”, Eugene, Lois, and Henry “Hank”. 

Family and friend will be received at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Aaronsburg on December 23, 2021 beginning at 10:00 am.  The Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Teresa Hockenberry officiating.  In accordance with family wishes, burial will be private.  Contributions in memory of Ed may be given to St. Peters UCC, PO Box 87, Aaronsburg PA 16820.
