Ernest D. Lucas, 70, of Madisonburg passed away peacefully at his home April 25, 2025, while surrounded by his loving wife, caregiver, nurse and other loved ones. Born in Lock Haven on August 17, 1954, Ernest was the son of the late James E. Lucas, Jr., and Shirley Ann “Walker” Lucas.
On October 14, 1977, Ernest married the love of his life, Barbara (Barbie) “Peachey” who survives. They enjoyed 47 years of blissful marriage and were blessed with three children who he loved dearly: daughters, Elizabeth (Jason) Hochstetler of Columbus, OH and Susan Lucas of Aaronsburg and one son, Jason Lucas of Madisonburg.
He was so proud to be the "Pappy" of seven grandchildren: Caleb (Katlan Bowersox) Lucas, Kyle Lucas, Cameron Diehl, Isis and Evan Lucas and Paige and Allie Hochstetler; three great grandchildren; Lena and twins, Karlan and Kinsley.
Ernest is also survived by one sister, Belinda Decker of Centre Hall and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by three siblings: Eva Boob, Randal Lucas, and Brenda Swanger.
After serving our country in the U.S. Army for three years, Ernest worked as a Chemical Operator for twenty-seven years at Ruetgers Organics Corporation, formerly Ruetgers-Nease Chemical in State College. He loved his family and friends dearly and enjoyed spending time with them going on camping trips, fishing, and having cookouts. He enjoyed his coffee, watching his movies and enjoyed all the nature and beauty of Pennsylvania.
The family would like to send a special “thank you” to all the nurses and caregivers who took care of Ernest (Ernie) throughout his time of illness, especially to Cecelia who cared for him for the last four years at his home.
Family and friends will be received from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm with Pastor Randy Muthersbaugh officiating. Contributions in his memory may be given to UPMC Family Hospice. Ernest will be laid to rest in Centre County Memorial Park in State College.
