F. David Hosterman, of Spring Mills, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Wynwood House in Centre Hall. He was 91. Born November 4, 1931, in Spring Mills, Dave was a son of the late John David and Helen Sara (Smith) Hosterman. He was a graduate of the former Gregg Township Vocational School in Spring Mills. On June 5, 1954, Dave married the love of his life, Nancy J. Martin, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by one son, Jeffery Hosterman (Dawn) of Spring Mills; four daughters, Meriam Berry (Jim) of Spring Mills, Susan Stewart (Mark) of Bellefonte, Elizabeth Engelhardt (Dean) of West Grove, and Barbara Morar (Larry) of State College; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was incredibly proud of his large and loving family, and he will be dearly missed. Dave was preceded in death by two brothers, John and William Hosterman, as well as his parents.
Dave was a farmer for his entire life. He was also the mailman for the Rural Route in Spring Mills for 30 years. Dave was on the board of the Farm Service Agency for many years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Millheim for over 60 years where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served on the church council. He was a fixture for many years at the Centre Hall sale barn, where he weighed the animals before sale.
Dave had many interests and hobbies. He owned and rode horses throughout his life and loved each horse dearly. He also enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was an avid reader and devoured books of all kinds. He loved animals and you never knew what might be residing in his barn.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Becky Horn officiating. Dave will be laid to rest in Heckman Cemetery in Spring Mills. Contributions in memory of Dave may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church, POB 439, Millheim PA 16854.
