Frances Ellen Runkle Fetterolf, 104, of Aaronsburg, passed away August 27, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born to the late Wilbur Samuel Runkle and Mary Weaver Runkle Limbert on July 13, 1920, in Colyer, PA. Frances graduated from Centre Hall Potter High School in 1939.
She married the late Gerald G. Fetterolf in 1940. They lived together in Pleasant Gap and Bellefonte before starting farming in 1948 and relocating to Aaronsburg in 1960 where they farmed until retirement. Frances is survived by five children: Donn G. (Elva), Dennis R. (Rosalie), Barbara D. Hosterman (Donald), Suzette D. Schreffler (E. Thomas) and Jeffrey D. (Kathy). She is survived by thirteen grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband in 2009 after 68 years of marriage, her brother, Kenneth, her sister, Bernice Barner and one grandson, Orvis Gerald Fetterolf.
Frances was a dedicated mother working at Sylvania Mill in Mill Hall during WW II and contributed to the community by helping to start many 4-H clubs for over 25 years. She was privileged to attend the international conference at Chevy Chase, Maryland and won one of four 4-H Alumni Awards for the state of Pennsylvania. She and her husband were charter members of the Centre County Farm Bureau and helped form the Centre County Farm Women’s Committee. She served as treasurer for the Farm Bureau and chairman of Women’s Committee for many years. She also served on the State Women’s Committee for seven years and served and chaired the Extension Advisory Committee. Frances was an active member of St. Marks’ Lutheran Church in Pleasant Gap and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Millheim where she served on the Altar Committee and actively in all parts of the church.
A visitation for family and friends will he held from 10:00 am until noon at St. John’s Lutheran church in Millheim on Saturday, August 31, 2024. The funeral will follow with Pastor Teresa Hockenberry officiating. Frances will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Millheim. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Frances may be given to St. John’s Church, POB 439, Millheim, PA 16854 or to American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
