Surrounded by his loving family, Gene Alden Auman, 75, of Mill Hall, formerly of Aaronsburg, passed away Friday, May 22, 2026, at his home after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born April 15, 1951, in Coburn, Gene was a son of the late Albert R. and Freda L. (Confer) Auman. He was a 1971 graduate of Penns Valley High School. On August 3, 1993, he married the love of his life Bonnie J. Askey, who survives at their home.
In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by one son, Shane Irvin, and seven siblings, Leona M. Spangler, Alma D. Confer, Alberta A. Miller, Darla K. Miller, Joyce M. Auman, Alda A. Auman and Gerald A. Auman. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by siblings Frances A. Confer, Ellis Auman, Larue Auman and infant sister Laura Auman.
Gene began his employment at the former Vonada’s Store in Aaronsburg. He then worked at Corning Asahi for 25 years until they closed. He then was employed at Bellefonte Area School District where he retired from. Gene enjoyed cutting wood, gardening and tinkering around in his shop. His most favorite thing to do was spending time with family and friends and hunting at his camp “Auman Acres”.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim from 10:00 am until noon on Saturday, May 30, 2026. In accordance with Gene’s wishes, there will be no funeral service and burial will be private. Contributions in his memory may be given Pancreatic cancer research at www.pancan.org. Gene will be laid to rest in Jacksonville Cemetery.
