George Buffington "Buff" Weigand, Jr.

Surrounded by his loving family, George Buffington “Buff” Weigand, Jr. passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the home of his son, Frank M. Weigand of Coburn, with whom he had resided.  He was 95.  Born July 20, 1927, in Riverside, NJ, Buff was a son of the late George B. Weigand, Sr. and Ruth M. (Barnes) Weigand and brother of Frank Barnes Weigand.  He was preceded in death by his wife Jean L. Washburn in 2009.

After graduating from high school, Buff went on to attain a bachelor’s degree at Gettysburg College and then a master’s degree from the University of Delaware.  He was employed as an Athletic Director and history teacher at William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, PA and the Detroit Country Day School in Detroit, MI.  He also taught at Mercersburg Academy and St. Andrews School in Middletown, DE.  During the summer he was the director of the Hill Camp at Camp Susquehannock in Brackney, PA. 

Buff served our country from June 1945 through August 1946 in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  Buff enjoyed working with children.  He volunteered for at risk children.  In his spare time, he loved watching any kind of sport.

Surviving is one daughter, Dr. Anne Louise Slonaker and her husband Dr. Brad Slonaker of Poultney, VT: two sons, Frank M. Weigand and wife Angel of Coburn and Davis Barnes and his wife Joan of Sebastian, FL.  Also surviving are grandchildren Ryan, Andrew, Noah and Tess and great grandchildren, Everett, Mason, Rose and Wesley.  In addition to his wife, Buff was preceded by his brother Frank Barnes Weigand.
