Obituary

Surrounded by her loving family, Geraldine "Gerri" Leggett-Butler, passed peacefully away Monday, August 21, 2023, at her “Heaven on Earth” the farm, in Woodward.  She was 55.  Born September 8, 1967, Gerri was a daughter of the late Ashley G. Leggett and Rebecca “Swain” Leggett of Boalsburg.  She was a graduate of State College High School.  On May 10, 1985, Gerri married the love of her life, Gary “Boe” Butler, who survives.

Gerri loved life, having fun, her farm, and her closest friends.  More than anything else, she loved her family.  Gerri, aka “Gigi” fiercely loved her three grandboys, Cooper, Mylan and Gunner.  They were what her world revolved around, and she loved spoiling them to pieces.  What she cherished most was making and creating memories with her family at “the farm”.

Gerri was a caretaker by heart.  She had a remarkable dedication to her parents during the trials of their old age.  She closely accompanied her father through his last illness.  After his death, she undertook the management of her mother’s health and household, relieving her of all anxiety as much as humanely possible.

Her caregiving heart went beyond just family.  This remarkable characteristic of hers is what led her to make a career in Family Sharing and caring for individuals with intellectual disabilities.  Gerri wat the first Family Sharing provider in Centre County.  She cared for, adored and made part of her family, two lovely ladies, Maisy and Marion for over 20 years.  She was currently caring for another individual up until her death.

Gerri was the matriarch of her immediate family and will be sorely missed.

In addition to her husband and mother, Gerri is survived by one daughter, Jamie Seitz (“Benny”); one son, Matthew Butler; two siblings, Desiree Evans and Jimmy Holland; three grandsons, Mylan Seitz, Cooper and Gunner Butler, and Tiffany Brungart, the mother of Cooper and Gunner, with whom Gerri was close friends with.  She was preceded in death by her father Ashley G. Leggett and three sisters, Janet Butler, Denise Ishler and Rhonda Butler.

In accordance with Gerri’s wishes, a private Celebration of Life will be held at the farm at a later date.  Contributions in memory of Gerri may be given to the American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org.
