Harold Gramley Obituary

Harold E. Gramley of Centre Hall, passed away peacefully at Wynwood House on Friday, May 20, 2022.  He was 89.  Born August 18, 1932 in Millheim, Harold was a son of the late Orvis and Carrie (Emerick) Gramley. He was a 1950 graduate of the East Penns Valley High School.  He went on to attend Penn State University where he attained a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Vocational Education.  He was married to Vivian Dinges who preceded him in death. 

Harold was employed at Penn State University, the former HRB Singer and the Offset Center at Boalsburg.  Eventually, Harold was employed at the former Centre County Vocational School, now CPI, where he was the instructor of the Graphics Arts Program for over 20 years.   He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and, later the PA Air National Guard achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Harold enjoyed all sports but his favorites were baseball, football, soccer, basketball and softball.  He loved to fish and hunt and was a member of the former Penns Valley Beagle Club, and a former member of the National Rifle Association where he had been a hunter safety instructor.  He coached Little League baseball, Teener League, youth soccer and basketball.  He served as an usher for Penn State football games for more than 40 years.  Harold was a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association, a lifetime member of the Bellefonte Elks # 1094 where he had served as past Exalted Ruler and, a lifetime member of the Boalsburg Fire Company where he was the oldest member.  Other memberships include the State College American Legion Post #245 and the Pine Grove Mills VFW Post #5825.

Harold is survived by two sons, Gary E. Gramley (Cindy) of Centre Hall and David C. Gramley (Linda) of Spring Mills; one daughter, Sherri L. Spotts (Tim) also of Centre Hall; eight grandchildren, Adrean Fortuna, Jamie Smith, Jesse King, Paul Gramley, Shane Gummo, Nathan Gummo, Andrew Rossman and Megan Rossman.  Also surviving are sixteen great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Allison; a brother, Homer and a sister, Edna. 

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Wynwood House, Centre Hall and Grane Hospice for the exceptional care of our father. 

Family and friends will be received Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 11:00 am until noon at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim, followed by the Celebration of Life service at noon with Pastor David Hersh officiating.  Harold will be laid to rest with military honors in Stover Cemetery in rural Aaronsburg.  Contributions in his memory may be given to Home Services Unit, c/o Bellefonte Elks Lodge, 120 W. High Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
