Harry John Burd, of Centre Hall, passed away unexpectedly at Mount Nittany Medical Center on Sunday, November 26, 2023. He was 84. Born November 27, 1938, in Aaronsburg, Harry was a son of the late Harry R. and Alaine “Wolfe” Burd. On August 24, 1963, Harry married the love of his life, Betsy K. Eppihimer who survives.
After graduation from high school, Harry went on to Lock Haven University for four years and finally to Penn State University where he attained his master’s degree. He was employed as a code inspector with the Centre County Government and was President of the Building Officials and Code Administrators International (BOCA). Harry had over 40 years of experience as a building code inspector for the county, and as an inspector with his own company, HJB Code Inspection. Harry also, was a member of the Centre County Historical. In his younger years he was a member and coach of the swim team at Lock Haven University. After graduation from Penn State, Harry played professional soccer and later was a referee for a local scholastic soccer team. Harry was an animal lover and in his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, and furniture making, coin collecting, bird watching and especially spending time with his grandsons, Cy, Sam and Conlan.
In addition to his wife Betsy, Harry is survived by a daughter, Michele Kapinus (Tom) of Reedsville; a son, H. Scott Burd (Sheila) of Philipsburg and his three grandsons, Cyril Kapinus, Samuel John Kapinus and Conlan Burd.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from noon until 2:00 pm at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim, followed by the Celebration of Harry’s life with Pastor Teresa Hockenberry officiating.
