Surrounded by her loving family, Iris Pearl Bierly of Loganton, passed away at her home on February 1, 2023. She was 87. Born April 28, 1935, in Rebersburg, Iris was a daughter of the late Eugene S. and Arlene “Hubler” DeGarmo. She was a 1953 graduate of Miles Twp. High School where she was the valedictorian of her class. In readiness for the new Penns Valley High School, the class graduated outdoors. She married Harold J. “Chas” Bierly who preceded her in death Oct. 29, 2009.
Iris is survived by five children, James D. Bierly (Betsy) of Bellefonte, Steven K. Bierly (Tammy) of Centre Hall, Tina L. Dickey (Donald) Mill Hall, Teresa A. Bierly of Madisonburg and Eric S. Bierly (Shelly) of Warriors Mark: five grandchildren, Destany D. Etters (Shawn) of Mill Hall, Anthony J. Bierly (Meghan) of Kunkletown, Crystal P. Kurtz (Jason) of Madisonburg, Ashley L. Ammerman (Nathan) of Moran and Dylan R. Bierly of Centre Hall. Also surviving, are six great grandchildren, Caven and Mallori Etters, Brayden, Haylee and Gatlyn Kurtz and Bryck Ammerman and one brother, Ronald DeGarmo. In addition to her husband, Iris was preceded in death by one brother Thomas DeGarmo.
Iris was a member of the Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ in Mill Hall. Iris enjoyed watching and feeding hummingbirds and collecting owls and bells. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her special caregivers, Jessica Vonada and Val Ransdorf. In support of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Iris enjoyed traveling to their events.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, February 5, 2023, and 10:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, February 6, 2023, at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Mark Riley officiating. Iris will be laid to rest in Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery in Rebersburg. Contributions in memory of Iris may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) or to the charity of donor’s choice.
