J. Duane Steiger

Surrounded by his family, J. Duane Steiger, of Spring Mills was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.  He was 83.  Born September 6, 1938 in the home he resided in all his life, he was the fourth child of Randall R. and Mary V. “Gobble” Steiger.  Duane was a 1957 graduate of Penns Valley Area High School.  On March 30, 1983, he married Patricia Ann Kononchuk who preceded him in death on January 13, 1998.

Duane is survived by one daughter, Lynda McClintic (Keith); two sons, David Kononchuk (Mercedita) and Brian Kononchuk (Holly); and three siblings, Robert L. Steiger (Helen), Doris Rishel and Leon Steiger (Kathleen).  Also surviving are seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  In addition to his wife, Duane was preceded in death by one brother, V. Paul Steiger, his sister in law, Dorothy Steiger and his brother in law, Martin Rishel.

Duane was a 1957 graduate of Penns Valley Area High School.  In 1960 he completed a Mechanical Drafting course in Birmingham, AL.  He later studied mechanical clock repair and became very proficient at repairing clocks, an occupation he enjoyed until retirement.  Duane attended the Fellowship Bible Church in Lower Georges Valley where he taught Sunday school to teenagers for many years.  He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan, a self-taught cabinet maker, a lover of Buick cars and he enjoyed target shooting and hunting

Family and friends will be received from 10-11 am on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Fellowship Bible Church on Lower Georges Valley Road.  The Celebration of Life service will follow immediately at 11:00am with Pastor Mike Covalt officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Duane may be given to the Fellowship Bible Church, 263 Reeder Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
