James C. Bower, of Loganton, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 18, 2023. He was 77. Born March 14, 1946, in Bellefonte, Jim was a son of the late Henry F. and Stella I. (Hazel) Bower. He was a 1964 graduate of Penns Valley Area High School. On May 22, 1976, he married Belva L. Brungard who survives at their home.
Jim was employed as a drill and mill operator at the former Cerro Metals in Bellefonte, retiring with forty years of service. He was a member of the Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren, the American Legion Keystone Post # 444 in Millheim and the Sugar Valley Fire Company. Jim proudly served our country in the U.S Marine Corps. He was an avid bird watcher with eagles being one of his favorites to look for. Jim also loved to visit Benezette to see the elk. In his earlier years, when he was able, Jim enjoyed camping with his family. He also enjoyed visiting the Last Cruise in Bellefonte every year to view the classic cars.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by four daughters, Deana Clinger (Scott) of Morrisdale, Lori Langer (Timothy) of Moshannon, Bonnie Owens (Scott) of Loganton and Jessica Goins of State College; eight grandchildren, Cameron, Christian and Olivia Goins, Rachael Schall (Connor), Katelynn Colantoni-Owens, Nathaniel Clinger (Hannah), April Clinger (Jacob) and Lynsie Lanager; one great grandchild, expected next month and last but not least his best furry canine friend, Moby. Jim was the last of his family having been preceded in death by his siblings Hazel Kell, Carol Shaffer and Kenny, Larry, Richard and Dale Bower.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral service will follow with Pastor Kenneth Geisewite officiating. Jim will be laid to rest in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Booneville. Contributions in memory of Jim may be given to Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren, 2305 E. Winter Road, Loganton, PA 17747.
