Janet M. (Leggett) Butler

Janet M. Butler, of Aaronsburg, passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 19, 2023.  She was 54.  Born September 3, 1968, in Altoona, Janet was a daughter of the late Ashley G. Leggett and Rebecca “Swain” Leggett of Boalsburg.  Janet and her sisters were very young when their biological parents, Ronald and Janet “Newkirk” Bougher died.  They were adopted as a family by the Leggett’s so they could stay together. 

In addition to her mother Rebecca, Janet is survived by her soulmate and life partner, Douglas P. Gill of Aaronsburg; one daughter, Melinda Eddy of Aaronsburg; one son, Justen Leggett (Stephanie) of TX; two sisters, Geraldine Butler (Boe) of Woodward, Desiree Evans of Spring Mills; and one brother, James Holland of Kansas City.  Also surviving are grandchildren, Athena Eddy, Laura Eddy, Roan Eddy, Jr., Riot Eddy, Abigail Leggett and Jack Leggett and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her father, Janet was preceded in death by sisters, Denise Ishler and Rhonda Butler.

Janet was a graduate of State College High School and went on to attend and graduate from South Hills Business School.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crafting.  She also drove the local Amish to different destinations in the valley.  The biggest joy of Janet’s life was her family, especially her grandchildren.  She loved spending time with them.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 6-8 pm at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim.  A Celebration of Janet’s life will follow at 8 pm with Pastor Mike Covalt officiating.  Janet will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Spring Mills at a later date.  Contributions in memory of Janet may be given to Steven R.
