Janet Shook Obituary

Janet L. “Janie” Shook, 80, of Spring Mills, passed away on January 5, 2021 at Embassy of Hearthside in State College.  She was the loving wife of Larry Shook (who passed on December 18, 2020) for 62 years.  She was born in Aaronsburg, PA on March 26th, 1940, a daughter to the late Russell and Tammy (Miller) Rossman.

She worked in the banking industry early in her career, followed by her passion of helping people by co-owning and operating the Salem Hill Haven Personal Care Home in Spring Mills for over 20 years.   Janie was a woman always on the go, enjoying the company of family and friends. She was a loyal member of the Salem U.C.C. Church in rural Spring Mills and served in many capacities for the church.

She was active and supported many community activities in Millheim for her entire life including secretary for the Junior Bowling Association and president of the Penns Valley Women’s Bowling League.  She loved anything that involved being with people and volunteering her time.

She is survived by her son Rick and his wife Deb of Dillsburg; grandchildren Ryan Shook and his wife Beth, Courtney Shook and his son Myles, and Chad Shook and his wife Katie and their sons Sean and Gavin. Also surviving is Janie's sister, Liz Springer of Mill Hall.

A memorial service will be held for immediate family only due to current gathering restrictions.  Burial will be at Heckman Cemetery in Spring Mills.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Salem United Church of Christ, c/o Peggy Swartz, 638 Tattletown Road, Aaronsburg, PA 16820.
