John R. Mersinger, 83, of Coburn, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born May 3, 1939, in Spring Mills, John was a son of the late John D. and Mable (Confer) Mersinger.
John grew up on the family farm and was a 1958 graduate of Penns Valley High School. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force as a Specialist Jet Mechanic during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his return from the military, he was employed at Penn State University in the Office of Physical Plant and retired from there. John was a member of the former Holy Cross Lutheran Church, now New Hope Lutheran in Spring Mills, the Millheim Fire Company and the American Legion Post 444 in Millheim. He loved visiting Disney World, along with hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing pool.
John is survived by a son, Milton G. Mersinger (Marie) of Florida; one sister, Clare V. Mersinger, of Coburn and, numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at New Hope Church on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm followed by the Celebration of Life service at 3:00 pm with Pastor Lauretta Dietrich officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Keystone Post 444 in Millheim. John will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery at a later date. Contributions in his memory may be given to New Hope Lutheran Church, 119 Cobblestone Drive, Spring Mills, PA 16875 or to the Millheim Legion, POB 301, Millheim, PA 16854.
