Joyce Gilmore Obituary

Surrounded by her loving family, Joyce O. Gilmore, formerly of Coburn, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Wynwood House in Centre Hall.  She was 85.  Born February 11, 1936 in Coburn, Joyce was a daughter of the late John E. and Sarah M. “Hosterman” Gilmore.  She was a 1953 graduate of East Penns Valley High School.

Joyce was employed as a laborer at the former Gettig Pharmaceuticals in Spring Mills, retiring from there with 47 years of service.  She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Coburn where she had been a longtime Sunday School teacher, the Membership Secretary for many years, and a member of the Church Choir, among many other areas of service in Christ.  She was a strong supporter of Penns Valley and Penn State Athletics, along with being a supporter of many charities.  Joyce had a card ministry and loved to visit shut-ins, sometimes even sending cards to people she didn’t really know.  She was a dog lover, enjoyed shopping, and attending Grange Fair.  And, anyone that knew Joyce, knew she was particular about her hair and loved drinking coffee and coca cola.

Joyce is survived by her “chosen family by affection”, Paul Winkelblech and his wife Krista of Centre Hall and their children, Lukas, Kailen and Riley with whom Joyce spent many fun, quality “grandma” moments with.  Also surviving is close friend Mary Hosterman, along with cousins and other friends.  In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by one brother Kenneth E. Gilmore and one sister, Lois O. Gilmore.

The family would like to thank the staff of Wynwood House in Centre Hall for their wonderful care of Joyce before and during the difficult times of the pandemic. Their efforts were truly appreciated.

Joyce will be laid to rest during a public graveside service to be held on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 1:00 pm in Fairview Cemetery in Millheim.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joyce may be given to St. James UMC, POB 90, Coburn, PA 16832.
