Joyce Weaver Obituary

With full hearts and deep love, we celebrate the life of Joyce L. Weaver (Joey), who passed peacefully on March 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at 90 years of age.  Joyce was born July 5, 1935, in Spring Mills, she was the daughter of the late Alice M (Detweiler) Smith and Owen O. Smith.

On September 13, 1953, Joyce married the late Jack M. Weaver. Joyce was the matriarch of the family-a woman of warmth, generosity, and quiet humor. Joyce’s love and compassion was a gift to everyone who knew her.

A proud 1953 graduate of Gregg Township School, she lived a vibrant life owning and managing the Spring Mills Hotel, with her husband, Jack. Joyce and Jack welcomed guests from near and far with genuine care and a gorgeous working collection of antique music boxes. A reflection of their appreciation for history, beauty, and love of music. In 1979, Joyce started working at the Penn State University Bookstore and the Bon-Ton (formerly Hess’s & Penn Traffic) department store at the Nittany Mall.

Joyce found happiness in life’s adventures. She enjoyed traveling (with a special love for all things Disney), camping at the Grange Fair, and spending time with family and friends. Joyce’s strong faith, determination, and devotion to those she loved were her greatest joys. Joyce lived her life with a deep sense of the value of family and leaves a legacy of love, laughter and togetherness. She will be forever cherished and will always be remembered in the stories her family and friends share, the lives she helped shape and her favorite quote “I Love you A Bushel and a Peck and a Hug around the Neck”.

Joyce is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughter, Brenna (Weaver) Swires and husband, Mike, of Spring Mills; her son, Kenneth J. Weaver and wife, Kimberly, of Poolesville, Maryland; and her six beloved grandchildren: Bryan Swires and his wife, Shawn, of Aaronsburg, PA, and their daughter, Haley Swires; Chad Swires and his wife, Mya, of Bellefonte, PA, and their children, Eli Rushton, Meredith Parise-Swires, and Evan Swires; Corey Weaver of Jefferson, MD, and his children, Mason Weaver and Madeline Weaver; Josh Weaver and his wife, Katie, of Newark, DE, and their children, Beau Weaver and Marley Weaver; Alaina (Weaver) Tobery of Poolesville, MD, and her son, Fisher Tobery; and Megan (Weaver) Lowman and her husband, William, of Ashburn, VA, and their children, Audrey Lowman and Lillian Lowman. All of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

Though she will be deeply missed, Joyce’s love, laughter, and steady presence will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited with those who went before her and at peace in the presence of the Lord.  In accordance with family wishes, all services will be private.
