Judith R. Bailey

Judith R. Bailey, formerly of Aaronsburg, passed away January 4, 2026, at Celebration Villa in State College.  Born November 19, 1939, in Aaronsburg, Judith was a daughter of the late Merle T.  and Goldie “Shultz” Copenhaver.  She was a 1957 graduate of Penns Valley High School.  She married Russell A. Bailey who preceded her in death on April 26, 1997. 

Judith was employed as a secretary in the Geoscience Dept. at Penn State University, retiring on June 30, 1996, with 39 years of service.  She was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Aaronsburg where she was very active in the choir.  She was an avid cross stitcher, and her favorite subjects were barns and Santa’s.  She especially enjoyed stitching santa Christmas ornaments and santa pictures.  When she was able, Judith enjoyed monthly luncheons with her retired co-workers.

Judith is survived by one daughter, Babette A. Sabol of Bellefonte: four siblings, Patsy Vonada (Carl) of Aaronsburg, Glenda Copenhaver of Aaronsburg, Ronald Copenhaver (Mary) of Bloomsburg and Linda Long also of Aaronsburg.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.   Judith was preceded in death by one sister, Dixie Ort.

A Celebration of Life service in honor of Judith will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Aaronsburg with Pastor Teresa Hockenberry officiating.  Contributions in memory of Judith may be given to St. Peters UCC, POB 87, Aaronsburg, PA 16820.  Judith will be laid to rest in the Evangelical and Reformed Cemetery in Aaronsburg at a later date.
