Kathleen Miranda “Springer” Wert, formerly of Smullton, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Wynwood House at Salem Hill Haven. Born October 13, 1927 in Millheim, Kathleen was a daughter of the late Simon Peter Springer and Ruth McCool Wilkinson Springer. On November 10, 1945, she married Merle W. Wert who preceded her in death on October 17, 1999.
Kathleen attended the former East Penns Valley High School and then worked many years at the Millheim Hosiery Mill. She then worked as an operator in the copy center of the Engineering Department at Penn State University, retiring with twenty five years of service. After retirement, Kathleen went back to work again at Burkholder’s Country Market where she loved to meet and greet the people as a cashier. After nearly twenty six years of service there, she retired again. When she wasn’t working, Kathleen loved to spend time with her family.
Kathleen is survived by three sons, Jeffry (Gloria) of Centre Hall, Roger “Keno” (Brenda) of Pleasant Gap and Greg “Tuff” (Peg) of Spring Mills; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Wert; two brothers, William and Robert Springer; five half-brothers, Sherwood Springer, Walter, Harry and John Wilkinson, and Randall Stump; and a half-sister, infant Elaine Springer.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until noon, Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral will follow at noon with Pastor Curt Wingert officiating.
