Lowell T. Rote, of Millheim, passed away January 31, 2025, at Wynwood House at Salem Hill Haven in Spring Mills. He was 92. Born July 31, 1932, in Spring Mills, Lowell was a son of the late Simon E. and Dorothy M. "Bartley" Rote. Lowell was a 1950 graduate of the former Gregg Township Vocational School in Spring Mills. He went on to attend Penn State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science. On January 18, 1957, Lowell married Arlene G. Boob who preceded him in death on March 23, 2011.
Lowell was employed at the former Cerro Metal, retiring in 1995 with 25+ years of service. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Friendship Bible Church where he was active playing the piano, organ and singing with the Covalt family. Lowell served the community as fire chief for eleven years in the Millheim Fire Company. He was the oldest member of the American Legion Keystone Post #444 in Millheim. Lowell was a avid music lover, he even wrote and published a song. He was known for playing a calliope in local parades and at the Nittany Antique Machinery Show. In his younger years, he was a member of a local motorcycle club and in his spare time he enjoyed hunting, camping and being outdoors, especially at his hunting camp in Poe Valley.
Lowell is survived by one daughter, Sharon Jukes of Millheim; three sons, Richard Barger (Sharon) of Spring Mills, Terry Rote of Millheim and Jeff Rote (Jan) of Port Matilda; one sister, Norma Musser of Milroy and ten grandchildren, Jennifer McClain (Josh) of Bosssier City, LA, Jamie Kasebier (Matthew) of Dover, Julie Dix (Luke Garrett) of Bellefonte, Jeff Rote, Jr of Dover, Tammy Ronk (Dale), Kelly Ronk, and Todd Barger (Crystal) all of Spring Mills, Andrew Leigey (Amanda) of Colyer, Shanlly Storeman (Ron) of Beech Creek and Kayla Leigey (James Bilger) of Rebersburg. Also surviving are thirty-six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Lowell was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Allison Musser.
