Mary E. Holt, formerly of Millheim, passed from this life Friday, July 30, 2021 at Centre Care in Bellefonte. She was 98. Born January 23, 1923 in Peru, a little village outside of Pleasant Gap, Mary was a daughter of the late David and Mary A. “Immel” Noll. On January 16, 1946 in Washington DC, Mary married Paul Holt who preceded her in death in 1997.
Mary was a graduate of East Penns Valley High School. After high school, she attended business school in Harrisburg. Upon graduation from there, Mary proudly served her country as a WAVE in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II. There she met and married Paul Holt. She was employed at Penn State University in various clerical positions until her retirement with 31 years of service. In her younger years Mary enjoyed vegetable gardening and raising the family of 6 children she and Paul had together. She also enjoyed word search and reading, especially the daily newspaper.
Mary is survived by her six children, Rosemary Wilson of Millheim, Wendy S. Gentzel (Byron) of Loganton, Ronald L. Holt (Nancy) of Centre Hall, Frederick D. Holt (Joyce) of Easley, SC, William F. Holt (Cheryl) of Elizabethtown and John P. Holt (Sandy) of Potter Valley, CA. Also surviving are twenty seven grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by siblings Foster, Harold and Dean Noll.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm on August 9, 2021 at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim, followed by the funeral service at 12:30 with Pastor Kenneth Codner officiating. Burial will be private at the Zion Cemetery, Zion Pa. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mary may be given to the charity of donor’s choice.
