Mary K. “Cass” Steiger, of Centre Hall, passed away February 28, 2023, at Wynwood House in Centre Hall. She was 88. Born September 24, 1934, in Madisonburg, Cass was a daughter of the late Wilbur F. and Sarah Victoria “Fetterolf” Yearick. She was a 1952 graduate of the former Gregg Township Vocational School. On October 23, 1953, Cass married Leon D. Steiger who survives.
Cass was employed at the former Gettig Technologies in Spring Mills, retiring with 36 years of service. She then worked summers at Woodward Camp as a cook. Cass loved to cook and especially bake. She was well known for her pies. She enjoyed caring for her family and home, as well as flower gardening.
Cass enjoyed time spent with her family, especially at “Sunrise Camp” the family cabin where they would have get togethers. She was an avid chicken collector and enjoyed watching hummingbirds. The biggest joy for Cass was her beloved grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Cass is survived by two daughters, Kathy Balliet of Bellefonte and Shawnie Bechdel (Malvin) of Pleasant Gap: two sisters, Leotta Long of Spring Mills and Elaine Witherite (Ron) of Reedsville and one brother, Philip Yearick (Sue) of Spring Mills. Also surviving are two grandsons, Preston and Austin Bechdel. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson Yearick and Edward Yearick.
Family and friends will be received from 10-11 am on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Sprucetown United Methodist Church. The Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Theresa Heiser officiating. Cass will be laid to rest in the UCC Cemetery in Madisonburg at a later date. Contributions in memory of Cass may be given to Sprucetown UMC, 177 Upper Georges Valley Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
