Mona J. Brooks, of Belleville, formerly of Rebersburg, passed away on June 21, 2024, at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital. She was 85. Born September 1, 1938, in Bellefonte, Mona was a daughter of the late William E. and Mary Lou “Osman” Mowery. She was a 1956 graduate of Bellefonte High School. On October 27, 1956, she married Basil B. Brooks who survives.
In addition to her husband, Mona is survived by two daughters, Lori Brooks Bierly of State College and Brenda L. Brooks (Fred) of Spring Mills; two sons, Rickey B. Brooks (Tammy) and William P. Brooks, both of Millheim; one stepbrother, Jerry Watson (Naomi) of Pleasant Gap; three grandchildren, Jon D. Brooks (Emily) of New Jersey, Mark A. Brooks (Amy) of Howard, and Audrey C. Kerstetter of Spring Mills. Also surviving are three great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Mona was preceded in death by her half-brother, Tommy L. Mowery.
Mona held several jobs in her lifetime but was foremost a homemaker. She was employed at the former Singer Sewing Company and the Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital, both in State College and most recently, Shaffer’s Store in Rebersburg. She loved animals, especially bulldogs, enjoyed flower gardening and canning the fruits of her labor from the vegetable garden. Mona was an avid seamstress and enjoyed any type of crafts, including ceramics and crocheting. She also loved having garage sales every summer. Mona was a Sunday school teacher at the former St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Rebersburg and also a Brownie Troop leader.
Mona will be laid to rest in the Evangelical Cemetery in Rebersburg during a private family graveside service to be held at a later date. Contributions in her memory may be given to Pets Come First, 2451 General Potter Highway, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
