Nancy L. (Smith) Stover

Nancy L. Stover of rural Spring Mills, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.  She was 81.  Born May 7, 1940, in Spring Mills, Nancy was a daughter of the late W. Ray and Bessie G. (McClellan) Smith.  She was a 1958 graduate of Penns Valley Area High School.  On January 30, 1962 she married Frederick C. Stover who survives at their home. 

In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by two daughters, Susan Confer (James) and Amy Stover (Calvin) both of Spring Mills; two sons, Michael Stover of Bellefonte and Kenneth “Harv” Stover (Sara) of Morrisdale, and siblings Doris Leitch of Spring Mills and Joseph Smith of Boalsburg.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Kristy (Craig), Asher, Katelyn, Shayne (Chelsy), Madison (Jeremy), Heath (Tara), Matt, Micki and Tiff, along with seven great grandchildren.  Nancy was preceded in death by siblings, Bernadine Homan, Ann McCool and Gene Smith. 

Nancy was employed at the former Gettig Pharmaceuticals in Spring Mills.  She loved horses and would ride them at her father’s farm when she was young.  At one time, she participated in barrel racing at local rodeos.  In her teenage years she and her sister Doris sang and her brother Joe played guitar at local carnivals. They called themselves the Penns Valley Sweethearts.  She enjoyed putting puzzles together, reading, watching Penn State Football, attending BJC concerts and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.  Most of all, Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family.

In accordance with family wishes, all services are private.  Nancy will be laid to rest in Heckman Cemetery in Spring Mills.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Nancy may be given to Penns Valley EMS, 106 Ross Hill Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
