Paul J. Rachau, of Spring Mills, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Wynwood at Salem Hill Haven. He was 90. Born September 16, 1930, Paul was a son of Paul K. Rachau and Sarah Long and was raised by his mother and Landen Shreckengast. On December 22, 1956 he married Idajean Orndorf.
Paul served his country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Berlin Germany during peacetime after WW II. He had fond memories of being in the military. In recognition of his service, Paul received a Quilt of Valor on June 20, 2018. Paul was a dairy and crop farmer for 27 years in Penns Valley. After he retired from farming he was employed for several years at Park Forest Apartments in State College and Breon’s Gas Station in Rebersburg as an attendant. However, his love for farming remained strong even though he wasn’t farming anymore. He would still keep track of how all the farmer’s crops were doing and was always interested in tractors. He was an avid collector of toy tractors and enjoyed lawn mowing too.
Paul is survived by one daughter Judy Stover (Craig) of Port Matilda; two sons, Edward Rachau (Connie) of Pleasant Gap and Timothy Rachau of Aaronsburg; five grandchildren, Daniel Stover (Jerileigh) of East Freedom, Ariel Christine (Luke) of Tyrone, Alexa and Cody Rachau of Aaronsburg and Joshua Shaw of GA. Also surviving are two great grandchildren and a good friend Doreen Bucha. Paul was preceded in death by an infant daughter Cynthia Kay Rachau and one granddaughter, Tiarra Rachau.
A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date. Paul will be laid to rest in the Lutheran Cemetery in Rebersburg with military honors. Contributions in his memory may be given to Wynwood at Salem Hill Haven, 424 Heckman Cemetery Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
