Phyllis W. (Wagner) Colyer

Phyllis W. Colyer, formerly of Bellefonte, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.  She was 90.  Born March 3, 1933, in Woodward, Phyllis was a daughter of the late Martin L. and Lida M. “Brindle” Wagner.  She was a 1951 graduate of the former East Penns Valley High School where she had been the May queen.  On May 31, 1952, Phyllis married Richard J. “Rich” Colyer, who preceded her in death on March 4, 2021.

Phyllis was the owner/operator of her own beauty salon, Phyll’s Beauty Shop in Spring Mills.  She made many friends with her clients over the years.  Her life outside the shop revolved around Rich and making a beautiful home for them.  She was a great cook and was very social, loving to get together with family and friends.  She and Rich held Penn State football season tickets for over twenty years.

Although Phyllis and Rich didn’t have children of their own, in their late 20’s they took on the responsibility of raising Phyllis’ three brothers, Ken, Ennis and Kevin Wagner, after their parents passed away.  A sister, Joyce was already married at that time.  

Phyllis is survived by her sister, Joyce Tressler of Stanardsville, VA and two of the three brothers, Ennis Wagner (Nancy) of Centre Hall and Kevin Wagner (Patty) of Albuquerque, NM.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Wagner. 

A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023, from 10-11 am at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim.  The funeral will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Kenneth Codner officiating.  Phyllis will be laid to rest in Woodward Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Phyllis may be given to Grace Baptist Church, 3596 Penns Valley Road, Spring Mills PA 16875.
