Rev. Marvin M. Freed

Surrounded by his loving family, Rev. Marvin M. Freed of Rebersburg, heard his Master call, "Come home my son, your work on earth is done", and went home to be with his Lord on Monday, June 16, 2025.  He was 90.  Born September 4, 1934, in Earlington, PA, Marvin was a son of the late Norman H. and Elizabeth B. (Metz) Freed.  On September 17,1955, in Bridgeport, PA, he married the love of his life, the former Eunice S. Sheats, and they were married for almost seventy years.  Mrs. Freed survives at home.  

Marvin and Eunice were blessed with five children, Rev. Kenneth Freed (Ruth Ann) of Rebersburg, Rachel Coakley (Clint) of Morrisville, VT, Eunice Shively (Brian) of Monrovia, NY, Marjorie Karpinski (Steve) of Elverson, PA and Dwight Freed (Lindsay) also of Rebersburg.  They were doubly blessed with twenty-six grandchildren and fifty-four great grandchildren.  Also surviving is one brother, Norman Freed of Perkasie, PA and one sister, Elizabeth M. Albanese (Nick) of Pennsburg, PA.  Marvin was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Paul Freed.

In his earlier years, Marvin worked as a brick and stone layer, and he also farmed.  However, the vocation most near and dear to his heart was being a minister in the work of the Lord.  He and Eunice came to Brush Valley, PA in 1962.  In 1963 he became the Pastor of the Valley Mennonite Chapel and that labor in the Lord's vineyard continued until 2015.  It was his passion to minister to the people of Centre County.  Marvin also enjoyed hunting.

In accordance with family wishes, all services are private.  Marvin will be laid to rest in the Valley Mennonite Church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Marvin may be given to Valley Mennonite Chapel.
