Richard Auman, Sr. Obituary

Richard L. “Chip” Auman, of Millheim, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024, at his home.  He was 88.  Born September 8, 1935, in Millheim, Chip was a son of the late Lester W. and Bertha E. “Braucht” Auman.

He was a 1953 graduate of the East Penns Valley High School.  After graduation, Chip entered the U.S. Navy and served as a Sub Tender aboard the U.S.S. Bushnell.  Upon his return to the states in 1958, he attended the former Williamsport Technical Institute and graduated with a certificate as an Electrical Instrumentation Technician.  On October 15, 1964, he married Jane L. Kulp who preceded him in death in 2001.

Chip retired from Penn State University as an Electrician.  As a lifelong resident of Millheim, he was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and roam the hills and banks of Elk Creek.  He was very passionate about renewing the forest by planting new trees.  He has left a legacy behind that will last for generations to come.  He was a member of the Brush Valley New Life Church, the Millheim Fire Company and the American Legion Post # 433 in Millheim.  Most of all, Chip loved his family and spending time with them was high on his priority list, especially at the monthly shrimp feeds.

Chip is survived by one daughter, Ruth L. Hay of Millheim; one son, Richard L. Auman, Jr. (Angela) of Centre Hall; one sister, Mary Grenoble (Doyle) and four grandchildren, Susan E. Randolph (Jimmy Brown), and Kylie, Paige and Katelyn Auman.  In addition to his wife, Chip was preceded in death by one sister, Mae McCaslin and her husband Wilbur and his special canine friend, Izzy.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the people at Mount Nittany Medical Center and UPMC Family Hospice who cared for Chip during his illness.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 2-3 pm at the Brush Valley New Life Church, 123 Madisonburg Pike, Madisonburg, PA 16852.  The Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor Randy Muthersbaugh officiating.  Chip will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery.  Contributions in his memory may be given to Brush Valley New Life Church, POB 4, Madisonburg, PA 16852 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at https://www.jdrf.org/westcentralpa/.
