Ruth Isabella (Long) Myers

Surrounded by her loving family, Ruth Isabella Myers, passed from this life Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.  She was 81.  Born January 16, 1940 in Rebersburg, Ruth was a daughter of the late Ernest E. Long, Sr. and Ethel M. “Huey” Long.  On April 27, 1957, she married the love of her life, Larry Delano Myers who survives at their home. 

Ruth was a very active member of the New Hope Lutheran Church in Spring Mills, devoting many hours and making baked goods to help out in any way she could.  Ruth organized the blood drives that have been held at the church.  She would make homemade soup which quickly became a favorite with the donors. 

Ruth truly enjoyed cooking and baking.  She always made sure that if someone in the family was ill, had surgery or just wanted some of Mom’s or Grandma’s cooking, that they always received what they were asking for.  Her amazing homemade potato salad was always requested for family picnics.  Ruth loved having her family--often over 40 people--gathered around the table for Thanksgiving and Easter dinners.  Since covid prevented her from having everyone at her home last year for Thanksgiving, she was looking forward to holding it this year. 

Ruth was a strong, courageous woman, battling breast cancer and Parkinson’s disease without ever complaining.  Simple things in life gave Ruth great pleasure.  She loved spending time with her family for birthday celebrations, sporting events or just a quiet visit.  Ruth was the most loving and caring wife, mother, gma, grandma, great grandma and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

In addition to her husband, Ruth is survived by four children; Amy Regina Boob (Ray) of Centre Hall, Lynn Alan Myers (Sharon) of Spring Mills, Brian Ardell Myers (Tshana) of State College, and Daryl Edward Myers (Bobette) of Madisonburg; ten grandchildren, Ryan Boob (Lindy Vavrick) Anthony Boob (Audrey), Ashley Jones (Matt), Kirsten Ballock (Bill), Chelsea Thull (Chris Ronk), Krista Myers, Colton Myers (Hannah Catalano), Andrea Myers (Gabe Manyak), Mitchell Myers, Gregory Myers (Katie); along with her “adopted” grandchildren, Ella Mae and Jimmy Miller.  Also surviving are twenty great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Auman (Frank), Hazel Ciccone (Ted), and Donna Long; one sister in law, Eva Long and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by grandson, Bradley Scott Boob and brother, Ernest E. Long, Jr. 

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at New Hope Lutheran, Route 45 in Spring Mills, followed by the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am with Pastor Lauretta Dietrich officiating.  Contributions in memory of Ruth may be given to the New Hope Lutheran Church Food Bank, Po Box 96, Spring Mills PA 16875.
