Surrounded by her family, Sophie “Sue” Schnitzler, formerly of Allentown and Spring Mills, passed from this life on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Wynwood House in Boalsburg. She was 98. Born November 5, 1923 in Allentown, Sophie was a daughter of the late Thomas Thomasik and Mary Najmola, who emigrated from Poland. On July 13, 1953 she married Robert F. Schnitzler, Sr. who preceded her in death on November 17, 2009.
In her earlier years Sophie was employed at the Roller Smith Textile Mill in Allentown, where, during World War II, the mill stopped production to make altimeters to support the war effort. Sophie also enjoyed Penn State football, hummingbirds, crossword puzzles, and playing bridge. Sophie especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Sophie is survived by two sons, Robert F. Schnitzler, Jr and wife Trina Wolford of Rebersburg and David J. Schnitzler and wife Lisa Grafstrom of Elverson; two grandchildren, R. Tyler Schnitzler and Shelby Ruth of Catlett, VA, Zackary L. Schnitzler and wife Sarah of Easton and Amber Gardner and her husband Justin. Also surviving is a great granddaughter, Noel Gardner and the mother of R. Tyler and Zackary.......Luree Hendrick. Sophie is the last of her family having been preceded in death by seven siblings.
